We had a lovely stay at the DeAngelo’s lake house on Wednesday and did indeed need the shelter as it stormed most of the day. We did get a hike in, and I did some work on the bikes. We thought there was a decent 3 hour break in the rain coming up so we got into the kayaks and paddled north on Lake Milton. About 45 minutes in, the previously sunny afternoon turned dark and I suggested we head for a bridge for shelter from the impending storm. Sure enough, shortly after we hit the bridge, the skies opened and we stayed dry and safe from the lightning.
The storm lasted about 1/2 hour and we started the 50 minute paddle back to the house. Another shower rolled through and got us thoroughly wet, but it was short and we made it back by 7. We made dinner and did some route and stay planning and headed to bed.
Our first leg on the bikes was to Akron, OH and our Warmshowers hosts Greg & Eileen. On the way, we stopped in downtown Akron for lunch — which we got to on the great trails in the area. On the ride out to Greg’s & Eileen’s, we stopped at an Ace Hardware for a bolt to fix Dana’s kickstand and at CVS to pick up a prescription for me (easily transferred from our home pharmacy to here).
We had a delicious and interesting dinner with Greg and Eileen and endless conversations about bike adventuring and routes and hosts and all that stuff that make Warmshowers hosts such a great match. The bikes are safely stowed, we are more than stuffed, and are off to bed to rest up for tomorrow’s ride to Norwalk.
