After a good rest and a good breakfast and much discussion with Malcolm, we decided doing the wine trail was not going to be something we could accomplish and make it back to Devonport by Monday for the ferry. So, we decided to head back to Deloraine and on the way visit the Tasmanian Zoo where Tasmanian Devils and other creatures were kept.

We rode, no pushed, our bikes up the hill for about a mile till we got back up to the top of the hill over Launy. Pretty steep inclines even for Dana. We stopped at food store, got some provisions for the next day or two, and from that point on it was pretty much an easy ride to the zoo.

We had a great time at the zoo. We saw Tasmanian devils and emus, capybaras, wombats and pictures of possums (they were elusive and Dana is not a fan, anyway). All kinds of birds, too. Not quite the same as seeing them in the wild, but devils are elusive in the wild anyway, and seeing them was one of Dana’s check boxes.

After the zoo, we made our way to Deloraine intending to camp at the park where we had lunch the day before. We got the tent set up, showered, and walked into town. We found a bar that was open and as a bonus, it had a cycling theme. The owner was a cyclist himself, and after serving our beers and dinners, showed us some different routes to get out of town and on to our next destination.

Back at camp we crawled into bed for a very good night’s sleep.
