We had a pretty good night, that is until the video family decided that a common sleeping area, surrounded by dozens of snoring and dozing passengers, was a good place to have a 6 AM video call. Rude, to say the least. We weren’t that close to them, and none of the closer passengers called them out (they were obviously from more polite societies). We did catch a few more Zzzzzs and the ferry was about an hour and a half late getting into Devonport, so we had the extra time.

We waited a while for the bikes to get to the terminal, and quickly got on the road for the 64 mile ride to Launceston and our Warm Showers hosts for the night, Vicky and Malcom. We picked Launceston as it was on a route called the Winery Tour and the routes were already on our map tool, Ride With GPS, but Malcom sent us one that went right to their house. The ride was mostly on back roads, with a little bit of highway riding, but on good shoulders.

We stopped for lunch (and refreshments) in Deloraine at a campground and were surrounded by begging ducks. They didn’t get any lunch from us! Back on the road, the last 10 miles to Launy (as the locals call it) was a quite challenging uphill. At the top of the hill, Malcolm’s route took us down even steeper hills to their house, on the side of a mountain overlooking Launy. We both wondered how the ride back out of there was going to be — even though we hadn’t firmed up the next day’s plan.

Vicky went to a meeting and left the dinner she had prepared and we Malcolm brought it out to the patio. We had a nice conversation with Malcolm and that continued when Vicky came back. After a lovely evening, we all hit the sack.
