Happy to report no kanga intrusions last night. Our planned short day today allowed for other activities and we walked to the beach where we watched our uni-student-trio attempting to surf. The surf was pretty rough and they aborted their first try as the current was pushing them toward some rocks. Dana went for a run/walk on the beach and I headed back to camp and the kitchen to charge up and work on the blog. Ian and Janet stopped by and Janet left us a bag of blackberries to go with our breakfast. They were planning on going birding again and that if they were gone, we knew how to get our cooler items. I said thanks and good-bye in advance in case we didn’t see them again.

We eased into the day a little too long and the caretaker reminded us that checkout was at 10 — which we missed by 2 hours. No penalties in the campground though. On the way out, we stopped to say good-bye to Ian and Janet, but they had left already. The ride to Port Campbell was pretty easy and as we headed down the hill into the town, Janet and Ian were coming up the same road and we stopped and said good-bye and thanks again. They also said if we ended up going to Wagga Wagga to give them a call and we were welcome to stay with them.

We relaxed at a couple of bars in town and got some provisions at the local grocery and headed to the campground. We set up and went to the kitchen and made dinner and had a nice chat with two young transplanted Kiwis who were doing a short tour in prep for longer ones. They were using a stove similar to ours and I asked where they got the gas as we had been coming up empty. Melbourne was the answer, so we’d probably have to wait until we got back there to get some gas. Fortunately, this kitchen was also well equipped and we were able to cook our rice easily.

What we didn’t know was that the camp was being taken over by a “reunion” party of late-20 early 30 something males who were making a lot of noise. Enough that I moved the tent as far to the other side of the campground as I could get. Fortunately, they wrapped up the noise around 10:45, so we were able to get to sleep. Slightly bigger day tomorrow as we are heading to Warrnabool and a Warmshowers host!
