A good night’s rest, a warm breakfast, and we were ready to move down the GOR to Johanna Beach campground.
Except I wasn’t. Halfway to Apollo Bay (AB), I was bonking, struggling with the hills and the headwinds, and it was only the first third of a lot of climbing. By noon, I was only ½ way to AB and I texted Dana that I wasn’t going to make it to Johanna and there really weren’t any other options in between Apollo Bay and there that didn’t involve gravel roads and awful climbs. Reluctantly, she scouted a campground in AB. Once I finally made it there, we walked the beach and the town, got some refreshments, had a great Thai meal, then picked up some groceries for the couple days of camping we were anticipating.
The campsite was a little bit out of town, but on our path in the morning. We climbed into the wind-blown tent to try for some rest.
