We had a small shower at around 2:00 a.m. but The wind had stopped and it was a pretty light rain. Got up and started the day like we ended last night at McDonald’s! It was just too convenient to get a large coffee and some breakfast without having to pack and clean, etc. etc. It also gave us a chance to route to Green Bay and check for lodging there.
Our favorite touring app, Warmshowers, has been hacked and shut down for a week now and it’s not expected to be back up until Aug 25. So we can’t count on that. And their very bad backup plan was a group on Facebook. Not an optimal way to plan a stay. However, we did get a couple of hits including one for Green Bay, but we had already made reservations at the Days Inn. Another was for Grand Rapids, Michigan, which might be in our future (I put a broad request out for circling Lake MI). We also heard from Craig who we stayed with last year south of Muskegon. If you remember that blog post Craig and Kelly and their four kids escorted us to Muskegon on Sunday morning.
Dana, hit it off with the co-owner of the marina campground. Amy, and they were chatting for a while before we left.
Onto quiet back roads again till eventually reached the Devil’s River Trail. It was uphill all the way except uphill is a 1% or 2% grade. Good hard packed limestone trail that got us all the way to Denmark; Denmark WI that is.
As we approached Green Bay we stopped for a break and found some music going on and changed our route to Cycle Brews, a brewery with a cycling theme. It was rather underwhelming even though it did have a good number of cool old bicycles. One person in the very full bar even noticed that we were here on touring cycles and asked us about our trip. We left there and hightailed it into Green Bay on the Fox River trail to catch a band that was playing at Hagemeister Park. It may have been a park at one time, but now it is a plaza with seating for an outdoor restaurant and bar. The band was really good though and we did get a half hour event before they stopped playing.
We went to our hotel and checked in, showered, and headed walked back downtown for dinner at the Fox Hound. We watched a beautiful sunset and walked back to the hotel and crashed.
